Our flat is located in Westend, Munich, an interesting and lively neighbourhood which is only 10 minutes by tram or bike to the city centre. We live on the fourth and top floor of an 1890s building, which was totally renovated in 2005. There is no lift, but the stairs are wide, shallow and easy to climb! The flat is large (100 sq/m or approx 1,100 sq/ft), airy, light and quiet. There is an L-shaped kitchen / lounge / study, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a 12 sq/m roof terrace. The kitchen has all modern appliances and is very well equipped if you enjoy cooking! We are house proud and would expect you to take good care of our flat, as we would look after yours.

Munich is a big city (1.3 million people) but is nicknamed the village of a million people as it has a friendly atmosphere. If you’re into culture, there is the city centre to explore, world class museums, one of the world’s best opera houses and various music festivals. If you want to try Bavarian hospitality, then you have to sample the beer! There are six main breweries in Munich, over 100 beer gardens and of course the world famous Oktoberfest. If you’re into sport, then you can explore Munich by bike, or swim in the Isar river which runs through the centre. Munich is also good for shopping. At Christmas time, there are over 25 Christmas markets including Pink Christmas, the gay market. Munich offers a diverse gay scene concentrated in the Glockenbach area of town, which is 15 minutes from our flat. There are also a number of events including a CSD weekend (when the town hall turns into a gay club), several gay street festivals and a gay tent on certain days at the Oktoberfest. Click on the website link at the bottom of this page to get some first impressions of the city.

The area south of Munich is one of the most beautiful areas in Europe. There are several lakes where you can swim and of course, the Alps which are less than an hour away. The hiking paths are well signposted and there is a network of mountain huts, which offer food and accommodation. Munich and the surrounding area is a paradise for outdoor activities – sailing, skiing, mountain biking, climbing, rafting. If you’re feeling lazy, you can use the numerous cable cars to enjoy the fantastic views or visit baroque churches and fairytale castles of mad King Ludwig including Schloss Neuschwanstein (see the last kitschy picture).

If you want to explore a number of locations in Europe, Munich is one of most centrally located cities in Central Europe. Within a few hours, you can be in Salzburg, Vienna in Austria, Northern Italy including Verona, Venice and the lakes, Prague and the spa towns of the Czech Republic, Zurich and the Swiss Alps or the Croatian coastline.

We spend about a week in Marten and Phil's apartment. It is just perfectly situated near the Hauptbahnhof and U-Bahn and Tram-Stations. The apartment is beautiful, spacious and very well equipped and maintained. In the neighborhood are nice cafés, restaurants and grocery shops. The hosts are very helpful and nice. They gave us a lot of helpful informations. Munich is one of the most interesting and beautiful cities in Europe. If you like museums, beautiful avenues, shopping, nature, sports, beer, nice guys and royalty (palaces, crown jewels, carriage and the fairy tale King Ludwig II is everywhere) Munich is your place to visit.

We stayed a couple of days in Phils and Martens beautiful, cozy and quiet apartment, which is located in Munich Westend (just 1 station away from the central station). There is subway station which brings you to the center in no time. We loved to sit on the terrace with a glass of wine! The flat is very spacious. The communication with our hosts was easy and friendly. They left my place in perfect condition too. 100% recommended!

We did our first ever house exchange with Phil and Marten. The results were more than what we expected! Phil and Marten's place in Munich is impeccable. It is close to public transportation and close to many amenities. It is a in a very cute, clean and quiet neighborhood. They provided us with clear instructions and lots of guidebooks! During our exchange, they kept in touch with us through email and gave us even more recommendations about Munich and around. We had a chance to meet them on their last night in our place. They are a very sweet couple. They kept our place very clean. I would highly recommend Phil and Marten for a house exchange.

We stayed at Marten and Phil's flat for 5 days. We exchanged a few emails and we had a couple of Skype conversations before our swap. Unfortunately we have never met them in person but we had a very positive impression of them as genuinely nice guys. For us it was the first house swap and it could not have gone better! We would subscribe everything in the previous review like their detailed suggestions about local amenities, transportation, etc. Their flat is even better in reality than through pictures and it is very beautiful indeed. Also Phil and Marten left our flat in impeccable conditions. Their flat is a great base to explore the innumerable treasures of Munich and beyond.
