It’s the upper flat in a completely renovated 2 unit 1885 Victorian. It gets very good light—skylights in bath & kitchen. Washer/Dryer in unit; WiFi, computer + printer available. Small deck with view of trees of the Park. Attractively furnished with a mix of modern and antiques. Great central location in the lower Haight, a nice SF neighborhood adjacent to the Castro. Several cafes, restaurants, bars, & yoga studios within 2 – 3 blocks. We are near three very nice neighbourhood parks: Duboce Park, Buena Vista, and Alamo Square. We are also not far from the Panhandle to Golden Gate Park, which connects by bike lane to the Presidio—part of Golden Gate National Park. John and I stayed at Michael and Jay’s from Aug 17 to Aug 28. This was our third home exchange with them. They are a fun, energetic couple with extensive travel experience, and are easy to talk to about traveling, exchanging and, of course, San Francisco. To create some time for conversation with them, we actually left for San Francisco the day after they arrived at our place in Portland.

Michael and Jay’s home, the second story of a beautiful Victorian house, is in the Lower Haight neighborhood and is ideally located. Grocery stores, restaurants, public transit and bars and clubs can all be found within a few blocks. Their bright, airy, two-bath home has a large, well-equipped kitchen, a cozy den, a comfortable bedroom and a very beautifully furnished east-facing sitting room with period finishes. An especially lovely spot in the morning sun.

Increasingly, we enjoy a more relaxed vacation pace and will stay longer at our destinations. And, Michael and Jay’s home is great for those days/evenings where we want to just be indolent and hang out. They have a Sonos system for music throughout their home. And, they subscribe to some streaming services, so there were plenty of movies to watch. We ate many meals at home. We did go out, however!

As in our previous exchanges, we particularly enjoyed the proximity of the Safeway store at Church and Duboce, and the Muni 6 and 7 lines on Haight St. and the N-Judah line on Duboce. We love the superb, well-organized transit system in San Francisco and used it for excursions to Mission Bay (the new Oracle Park is a mind-blowing architectural and planning achievement), North Beach, Ocean Beach, Union Square, and the new TransBay Terminal with its elevated Salesforce Park.

Michael and Jay are friendly, helpful and responsible. They are very capable, accomplished travelers and exchangers, and we never have the slightest worry knowing they are caring for our home. San Francisco is such a great and unique American city, we feel very lucky to think that through our exchanges with them, Michael and Jay have become our friends.

We had a fantastic 4 day stay with the boys in November 2018. The house is quite spacious, guest room was plenty big enough for the fold out bed and our suitcases, the hospitality was way more then we expected. We were driven around the city, taken on walks to see various sites and cooked meals for each other. They gave us numerous sightseeing tips and shared their knowledge of the city thus making our stay in San Francisco very memorable. Thanks guys!

Our stay at the home of Michael & Jay was fantastic. Preparing the exchange was very easy because they were very precise and arranging. They were extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly.

Their home is beautiful and located in a most convenient location where Castro/The Heights. We swapped bicycles too and had great bike rides for example to the near Golden Gate Park.

We had a great time in San Francisco and enjoyed their hospitality very much. Thanks guys.

We loved our stay in Michael and Jay's home! Its location in the Lower Haight near a lot of really cool businesses is perfect. We walked and rode bicycles to the Golden Gate Park panhandle. We ate at some good restaurants near Church and Market--a close walk. And, we bought groceries near Church and Market, and cooked some meals at home. We caught buses or took the Muni to a lot of places from their home.

Their home is perfect with a nice big kitchen, lots of light, and super music system. It's easy to do laundry too. And their home was clean!

It was an easy trade--they left excellent instructions & were available if we had any questions. We couldn't tell that they'd stayed at our place--it was left so clean.

The only downside is that Michael & Jay live in SF not Portland. We managed to overlap our visit to spend an evening with them, and also met them in NYC when we were both there at the same time. They're a lot of fun to be around, and are definitely friend material.

We intend to exchange again with them!

The home of Michael & Jay was fantastic, extremely welcoming, clean and a beautiful San Francisco Victorian house.
It is conveniently located; we had great walks from the house to Castro and to the historic areas of the city.

Guys left us very helpful instructions and guides. From the beginning to the end our stay was smooth and enjoyable to the max. We would love to stay (exchange) again. Thank you guys for making your home our home away from home.

We can only say complimentary things about this, our first house swap. Michael and Jay were great at communicating and made the exchange run very smoothly, including a lot of helpful advice on things to do in the area beforehand so we really were quite excited by the time we got there!

Their home is charming and is situated in a beautiful, historic area of SF with there is plenty to do and see. The house itself is on the upper floor and so feels light and spacious. The front room is very elegant with beautiful furniture - a great place to relax in. The bedroom is next, which is very comfortable, with plenty of storage space made for you as well as lovely bed linens to make sure you're comfortable. The bathroom is quite large and has a marble sink, lavatory, nice shower and laundry facilities if you need them. Next is a large kitchen and dining area and, if you prefer to cook in, and has everything you could need to prepare your meals. The kitchen also leads out onto a balcony style 'terrace' which is partly secluded giving you privacy if you want to sit outside for a while and relax. The room at the back is a large den with TV and bureau.

Besides being a fantastic home, it is located in a very interesting, vibrant area; just a stroll from the fun of the Castro or the Haight as well as lots of quality bars, restaurants and cafes. A regular streetcar and subway service goes down town (10-15 ride depending where you want to be) which also makes it easy to get to/from the airport if you're planning to travel in Pacific region while you are there.

All in all, so much better than staying in a hotel. We felt properly relaxed and settled as well as being very lucky that Michael & Jay allowed us to stay in their house. We left with fantastic memories and are keeping our fingers crossed that our next swap will just as good.

Myself and my friend Andy stated at Michael and Jay's apartment last month and we had a wonderful time. Their place is lovely and the location is perfect, quiet yet a few minutes away from the Castro and literally steps away from beautiful Duboce Park.
We overlapped for a couple of days and they couldn't be more friendly and hospitable, picking us up at the airport, showing us around and always trying to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

They stayed in my apartment in Dublin last September and they left it in perfect condition. I hope to exchange with them again.

Thank you both!

Michael and Jay invited us at their house for a drink and appetizers during our stay in SF this summer. They are really sweet and kind. Their house is really big and located right in the very heart of Castro. You cannot get better location than this. They are really caring hosts and you will feel at ease with them.

We stayed at Michael and Jay's for 10 days. Their home has the perfect location, very near Castro but a much more beautiful and still vibrant neighborhood, with excellent restaurants and stores. It has a lot of different spaces and a very spacious and well equipped kitchen.

They are a very friendly couple, apart from the useful instructions they leave about their home and the area, their suggestions for dining and the area are a plus. Communication during the exchange was very easy and all their tips, accommodating to what we were looking for, were always perfect.

Without a doubt, we would love to Michael and Jay in our next trip to San Francisco.

Thanks for your hospitality!!

We had a great time in San Francisco. The place was clean and spacious and was located in a great spot between the Haight and the Castro. 100% as advertised! The only drawback was the challenge from getting from the airport to the house, but that was made really easy given the detailed, step-by-step instructions they provided on how to navigate the public transportation. We had the pleasure of meeting the guys in NYC when they came to move in to our place and they're great. Highly recommended!
