Dear Gary & Carlos:

Thank you for hosting us, and befriending us, on our recent first trip to Guatemala.

We enjoyed our time together at your lovely home at La Reunion, and we loved being spoiled by your driving us around, taking us out for dinner, introducing us to your expat friends, and being given all of your insights into what it’s like to live in Guatemala. We also appreciated Carlos’ spider slaying. And, we loved our trip to the market, which is only one of the things that we would not have done had we not been your guests

Its being on the side of a volcano, in reclaimed jungle, makes the site of your house novel. As well as its location and its attendant birds and wildlife, we loved the architecture and design, and we thought that the idea of incorporating Carlos’ ancient doorways into such a modern structure was inspired. We enjoyed your looking after us there, and we adored our casita with its separate sitting area, and Carlos’ collection of ancient ceramics, plus, your unique book collection.

We feel privileged to have been your first H.A.T.W. exchange guests. We hope that you enjoyed the experience, and, therefore, that we were the first of many. From our point of view, not only does exchanging have the advantage of one’s being able to leverage what one has, but it’s also a great way of meeting new people, and learning what it’s like to live in a particular place. This is especially true when one is treated as a guest, and is indulged as we were when we were with you.

Thanks again for hosting us. In future, we look forward to returning the hospitality when you can visit us here in Stratford, Ontario, Canada.

Big hugs,

James & Richard
