We live in charming Wapping with its historic wharves, warehouses, cobbled lanes and famous inns. It’s a one bedroom apartment on the ground floor of a four storey apartment block surrounded by lovely parks and very close to the river Thames. Local shops, bars & restaurants are 1 minute walk.

Surrounded by a rewarding mix of architectural heritage and iconic history, Wapping is situated in the heart of the capital, moments from Tower Bridge, The Tower of London, St Katherine Docks and the City.

Rich in maritime history, once forming part of the thriving docks, this area was the commercial hub of London, importing a wealth of products and luxury goods from around the world.

Wapping is truly an authentic destination, filled with independent cafes and restaurants, which has for hundreds of years been a vibrant part of London life. The Prospect of Whitby, London’s oldest riverside pub was popular with Charles Dickens, diarist Samuel Pepys and renowned artists Turner and Whistler. By the river, Hermitage Community Moorings attracts sailing barges, tugs and small boats, keeping alive Wapping’s river heritage.

Wilton’s is the world’s oldest surviving Grand Music Hall and London’s best kep secret. This stunning building hosts an exciting programme of entertainment including theatre, music, comedy, cinema and cabaret.

Bert and Darren stayed in our studio apartment in Glebe, Sydney for a few weeks over the Christmas/ New Year period. We just wanted to share with those of you thinking of swapping with them that they were impeccable guests. When they left, the apartment was as clean and tidy as when they arrived. They cared for my plants, watering them over the hot summer days, and they were most careful with everything in the apartment.

The studio is our second residence - we live just around the corner - which meant that we could see the boys from Wapping whenever it was mutually agreeable. We ended up having some dinners and drinks with them, hearing of their adventures in Sydney, and, in turn, offering them ideas for what to see and do. They were enormously enjoyable company.

If you are considering a London holiday you could do no better, we are sure, than swapping with Bert and Darren.

Just back from a wonderful weekend stay at Bert and Darren's central London pad. Even before we stayed Bert took the time to give us lots of info to help us plan our trip and met us at Wapping tube with a big grin and a warm and open manner. We spent a great hour with him wandering round the delightful local area in the sunshine, it's full of interesting lanes and parks and is right by the river with great views of London Bridge. The apartment is lovely with a new kitchen which has everything you could ever need. The boys were kind enough to have bought in some provisions including the best bread I have ever tasted! It feels luxurious and very comfortable and everything works perfectly. They had also taken the time to compile a very comprehensive file of things to do nearby and we took up the suggestion of the Sunday morning framers market. We had not stayed in this part of London before but would definitely do so again. It's really central but is also nice and quiet with lots of great places to eat locally. Thanks again guys for such a great welcome and we look forward to returning the favour soon. Xx Stu and Rich

Bert and Darren stayed at our Glasgow apartment in April while we were on holiday in Kos. We had previously stayed at their central London apartment for an enjoyable few days last year. We spent a lovely evening with them before we flew off and it was nice getting to know them both better. We returned from holiday to find a lovely clean apartment and I can honestly say we wouldn't hesitate in recommending Bert and Darren should you be considering a swap with them. We look forward to swapping again with them in the future.

Bert & Darren's home is furnished with every modern appliance, and is very close to the bus and tube network and a very short enjoyable walk along the Thames to the Tower of London. There is an excellent internet connection. We found them charming hosts via skype. We would love in time to meet them in person. There was a great community feel in the area they lived with local butchers and bakers around the corner and a great supermarket up the road. It is very close to all facilities.

We both had a wonderful time there. Their home was very comfortable with very modern technology. If you are looking for that great base to be in London, we highly recommend their place. Thanks for stocking up the fridge too. We would love to do the swap again someday.

thanks again Charles and Emery

We just spent three nights at Bert and Darren's. They are tidy, they have great style and they are detail-oriented. Bert has made an "owners manual" for the flat that includes smart details like photos of the TV remote with arrows and notes that say "hit this button first." They met us in person, gave us Oyster cards to start us off at the Tube, stocked the fridge with nice basics, and gave us loads of advice about what to do. Wapping is an ideal location and their flat in particular; just a block to the Tube. While they have easy access to everything in Central London, it is also peaceful with a rose park around the corner, walking paths everywhere, and a vibe like it is a town for locals, not tourists. We wish we could post our photos with the review to show off their charming cat, Oscar. And one of their pub, Captain Kidd, with seating that overlooks the Thames.

Just back from our second delightful stay at Bert and Darren's London pad. The apartment was as we remembered - comfortable, very well equipped and in a great location. This time we explored some parts of the city we had not seen before like Borough Market, Shoreditch and Colombo Road flower market, all of which were easy to get to from the nearby tube. We also flew into London City and got the DLR train along in 20 mins to the flat which was super easy as per Bert's helpful tip. Thanks again guys for use of your wonderful home and we look forward to welcoming you back to Glasgow soon xx Stu and Rich

We had great experience swapping with Bert and Darren. They were very accommodating and easy to communicate with. We spent 9 days and had a wonderful time. The place is conveniently located. It is not far from the center and yet has a feel of a small neighborhood with all the necessities: coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores and post office. Overall, the home was clean and exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was modern and well equipped. Despite that the profile had no photos of the bathroom, it was nicely renovated, modern and functional. We would not hesitate to swap again if given the chance in the future.
