Castro - Central, Quiet, Spacious Flat with Garden
Nearest gay scene is Here.
Castro, San Francisco, California, USA
Condo sleeps 2, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom
We're no more than a block and a half up from 19th and Castro, so all the restaurants, boutiques, and night clubs are just a few steps away. At the same time, this place is remarkably serene--the street is residential, tree-lined, and full of lovely old houses. The building is Edwardian; ours is the flat on the first floor--still lots of sun. One bedroom, one bathroom (claw foot tub!), a study, a living room with a piano, a large kitchen/dining room, a pantry, and a laundry room. The garden features a rustic old tomato cannery at the back, and tables and chairs perfect for brunch and lounging with a good book. Out the back, you can see Sutro Tower, and out the front, to the side, you can see the city skyline in the distance.
This is the Castro!!!!!! The Castro Theatre, featuring a real pre-show organ concert, Spike's Coffee, Philz Coffee, Little Orphan Andy's for onion rings and pie at 3 o'clock in the morning, a dog park with the most gorgeous, pampered pets imaginable, Cliff's Variety for funky household items and glamorous costumes, a great Indian wrap place that plays music that makes you want to dance on the tables, The Sausage Factory for good ol' Italian, Hand Job for self-indulgent mani's and pedi's, Samovar Tea Room where you can sit on the floor, lots of video bars, Moby Dick's, which has an enormous aquarium, pool tables, and the enticing smell of smoke, leather, and beer. This is also a center for public transportation; Market Street is two blocks away; the Mission is a 5 mins walk across Dolores Park; Noe Valley is ia 5 mins walk over the hill. San Francisco can be foggy and damp; this is one of the sunniest pockets! Oh yes, and there's a farmer's market down the street on Wednesdays.
During the day, we work super hard at our respective jobs--writer and production coordinator. And at night, we're either out blues dancing (it's like swing, only with more soul and molasses), or cooking yummy dinners at home. We're friendly, kind, and tidy. Our greatest vices are baking more batches of cookies than are perfectly necessary and giving too many treats to our little round dog. We go in for the occasional glass of wine or pop of bourbon. So we're looking to exchange with similar sorts of people with similar sorts of habits and delights. (This is a party mecca, after all, and so those who are looking to whoop it up might feel more at home at a place inhabited by like-minded whooper-uppers.) Since there are a lot of antiques in the house, we'd also be very excited to have people who know about coasters and napkins and such stay here. We've got a little shih-tzu, so we'd be happy to host a smaller sort of dog too. Not the big sort, I'm afraid, since their tails tend to be the enemies of knick-knacks and their paws the death of upholstery. And if you're allergic to dogs in general, then it shouldn't be a problem since shih-tzus don't shed. Lulu won't be traveling with us, since she prefers to stay with her friends while we're away.
