My Area Friedrichshain: After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 Friedrichshain began to develop a reputation as a young, dynamic and lively district. Alongside the neighboring districts of Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg, and Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain is now considered one of Berlin’s most fashionable areas, and is home to numerous design and media companies including MTV Central Europe, Universal and fashion labels. It is known for its many bars, clubs, pubs, and cafes, concentrated in the vicinity of Simon-Dach-Straße and Boxhagener Platz.
Location of flat:
- Very close to Warschauer Str (metro U1) or Frankfurter Tor (U5).
- Very close to Alexanderplatz just 4 subway stations to Berlins Centre.
- Walk 500 meter to Simon Dach street (Popular Bar area)
- Walking distance to the Eastside Gallery to see the last pieces of Berlin Wall.
Traditionally there are gay areas in the districts of Schöneberg (which had dance halls for men already back in the 1920s) as well as in Prenzlauer Berg (eastern part). Recently, the district of Friedrichshain developed as another area with a couple of clubs and bars.
- to Nollendorfplatz (Schöneberg) by metro directly 16 mins
- to Prenzlauer Berg by Tram+Metro 20 mins
- to Friedrichshain just step outside :-)

We had a fantastic experience in Berlin, and staying in Steffen's apartment was a good part of that.
The apartment is centrally located and all transportation is nearby: the M10 tram stops at the front door and 5 min walk to the U1-bahn & S-bahn stations. So it's very easy to access all of Berlin quickly. We stayed 2 weeks, and feel we only began to see the city!
The apartment itself is very nice. It's located in a quite courtyard; no city noise. It's nicely furnished, the bed is like at a luxury hotel, and the kitchen has all the latest appliances for easying cooking & clean up.
The neighborhood itself is very lively--reminds of of the East Village in New York. The famous club Berghain (+lab.oratory) is a 10 minute walk. I can't think of any place I'd rather stay in Berlin: perfect location + nice apartment. Plus, Steffen & Andre graciously offered to meet us at the airport, gave us a nice intro to the aparment and to Berlin--great guys!

When we exchange our apartments in 2010, our Berliner friends and us were both first-time swappers but the experience was really pleasant and convincing.
The apartment is nicely located in the young and easy-going district of Friedrichshain where it is quite easy to find a nice café or a good restaurant, most of them with large and pleasant terraces (we recommend Sneeweiß for its nice white interior and its excellent food).
The apartment is also conveniently located with easy and quick access to the most interesting places including Mitte or Schöneberg (both S and U-bahn are 5 min walk).
The apartment itself is perfectly suited for a short stay. It has the perfect size for two people and is equipped with everything necessary. As it is located in an old factory building, it is quite stylish with beautiful ceilings and a nice clearance. It is also located in a quiet and bright courtyard : no city noise!
We highly recommend the place and strongly suggest a visit to Berlin, especially in Summer time!

Thank you Steffen, what a great location for our Berlin trip. The unit was perfectly clean, spacious, really uniquely beautiful, had everything we needed (thank you for stocking the kitchen with basics) and was extremely quiet and peaceful which was exactly what we needed to adjust after our flight from Seattle.
We really enjoyed riding bikes, touring the sites, restaurants and just walking your beautiful city. We will return soon!

A new apartment in a renovated old button factory in east Berlin. The apartment exceeded our expectations! It is funky, bright and very tastefully furnished with new, modern appliances, 20 foot ceilings, large widows and balcony. The apartment is quiet, located off an inner courtyard. It is very conveniently located for public transit (tram as well as U1-bahn & S-bahn trains) which allows very easy access to all parts of Berlin. Close by are a variety of bars, cafe's, restaurants and galleries and a large supermarket.
Andre & Steffen are wonderful people and delightful & generous hosts (special thanks for the guided tour of Berlin and for stocking the kitchen with all the essentials and more!). We stayed for 6 days and are already looking forward to returning to Berlin - not only because it is an amazingly vibrant city, but also because of now knowing people like Steffen & Andre.
We did a non-simultaneous exchange and highly recommend Steffen & Andre to anyone interested in visiting Berlin.

A fabulous apartment, with a great "loft feel", in a very pleasant part of Berlin. The apartment is brand new en very comfortable, with a wonderful, sunny balcony. Berghain is literally a 5-minute walk away and there are lots of great restaurants in the neighbourhood. Steffan provided lots of info and a list of excellent nearby places to eat. I had a great time and can warmly recommend the apartment.

We've had a great experience in our 5-day swapping with Steffen. His place is in the heart of Friedrichshain with many restaurants and great places to visit and hang out. The apartment itself is a beautiful design flat, but really welcoming and comfy. The communication with Steffen was flawless and back home our place was impeccable. We are looking forward to swapping again.

We swapped flats with Steffen for 2nd year. The experience was excellent. It was very easy to find dates that worked for both sides.
The flat as you see it's well decorated, and it's very cozy. The bed is very comfortable! Steffen let us his two bikes and we were moving all around the city with them (no need to use public transportation).
We def recommend you to stay in this place. Just in the heart of a vivid neighborhood with tons of options to have a drink or a good diner.
