Loft-style, open plan house with ground-floor kitchen, lounge and bathroom, and upstairs double bedroom/loft with access to a spacious, sunny roof garden. The front door is in a small alley behind a locked gate. Secure, private and quiet. The building was originally a shoemaker’s workshop, subsequently converted into an artist’s studio and then a residence. A completely new kitchen was put in in 2014. Charming and comfortable.
Dalston is a mixed bag of urban delights. It is ethnically diverse, featuring Turkish, African and Carribbean communities alongside English East Londoners and the full spectrum of other city dwellers. Art, music, boutiques, outdoor markets and parks are all within short walking distance. Restaurant choices abound, offering some very high quality dining nearby. Dalston is particularly well known for its nightlife, with dozens of bars and dance clubs up and down the high street. The best known gay dance club in Dalston is no more than a two minute walk from my front door. Excellent access to other parts of London via the London Overground system (which connects to the Tube) and buses.

We spent five wonderful days at Arrans home. It is very cosy and personally decorated in a quiet one way street. The quartier is charming and animated with many shops, bars, cafés and gays. The lovely neighbor's cat came every day to say Bonjour, check the appart and demand a goodie. We loved it much.
Merci beaucoup Arran.

I really enjoyed my swap with Arran. His charming cottage is in a diverse, non-touristy neighborhood hidden down its own private mews, yet there's lots to do - and eat - right outside the gate. It's also just a short ride to the city center via transit from Arran's place, which is perfectly situated for exploring the east end of London on foot, or by bus. It made for a welcome refuge from the hubbub of the city and the tourist throngs, and Arran was a friendly, thoughtful and gracious host/guest throughout our entire exchange.

My bf and I had a great time staying at Arran's place. What a lovely place...
The location is excellent! It's on a little street right off the main road, and within easy access to public transport, restaurants, bars, cools shops, and makes for a great base to head out exploring. Not to miss the Lido´s swimming pool and the Jeffrey Museum, both within walking distance.
Arran was very welcoming, and is a great host.
