Saying goodbye
Essential guide table of contents
You’ve had a memorable vacation; you’ve made some wonderful new friends and enjoyed the hospitality of your host, whether or not your host has been there with you.

But now it’s time to go.
You collect all your belongings together, pack your suitcases and rush to catch your plane.
Forgetting something?
Oh yes.
The three Rs
Replenish, Replace and Refresh
A day or two ahead of departure, make sure that you replenish any items of your host’s that you may have used. Should you have caused any damage, either replace the damaged item or leave some cash to cover the cost of a replacement.
You must do a thorough cleaning of your host’s home – leaving it as tidy and clean, if not tidier and cleaner than when you found it. Some members write this into their contract of agreement, others merely view it as a common courtesy that needs no explaining.
Think about leaving a gift of thanks. Fresh flowers, chocolates or some wine is always acceptable.
Follow arrangements for return of the keys, either leaving them with a neighbour or friend, dropping them through the letterbox upon departure or even posting them in a secure container from the airport.
Finally, do not forget to leave your exchangers or hosts a note of thanks for allowing you the unique privilege of sharing their world.
